The problem is that celebrities have publicists and they will go out of
their way to protect their clients' interests. And anybody who is suddenly
thrust in the public eye can hire a PR or damage control firm to manage
interviews. And any celebrity or public figure is going to be coached to
stay on message and anticipate hostile questions with a prepared answer
ready.

And confrontational questioners can go overboard which can also kill an
interview. The reason the classic Mike Wallace interviews are a couple of
decades old is that they lost their effectiveness and 60 Minutes changed
direction.
