I'm not going to defend SCANDAL as good television, but I will say that I find it quite engrossing and addictive.  I think that the actors -- and often the dialogue -- are better than they have to be, and if you can tolerate a whole lot of suspension of disbelief I think that the stories are actually interesting -- with the exception of the romance between the President and Olivia, which I always found awkward and even moreso in the recent episodes. (And yes, I know that is the main storyline, but still)

Of course, I'm a sucker for watching Josh Malina in just about anything, so there's that.  But I was happy to see a recent Alan Sepinwall post praising the second season for embracing and having fun with its soapy-ness.  I enjoy the show in the same way I enjoy Brad Meltzer novels -- far from high literature and not realistic at all, but still fun

Yes - I get that. I probably came off as more moralistic than I intended, a function of watching it under some duress. And I actually experience some pleasure in watching it, and understand why it is a popular show (if it in fact is). I am just struck by the contrast between the experience of watching these two shows recently, both set in political Washington DC; one really is about intelligent and competent people (who are flawd and sometimes do stupid and incompetent things); the other about innane, superficial and banal people who breathlessly tells us how intelligent and competent they are.
