I say "finale" in quotes because in reality it was "Downton Abbey"'s
Christmas special, a stand-alone episode, not a "season finale" (as many of
you know, one-or-two-shot Christmas specials of popular series are a
fixture of UK television, where the holiday season is a big deal and not a
dumping ground for reruns of traditional specials)--anyway, 8.4M viewers, a
probable PBS record. And now you know why PBS added a half-hour pledge
drive to the 90-minute episode (I'm guessing 75-some minutes in actual
length--remember, ITV is commercial):

How did "Walking Dead" do Sunday night? I would guess that 20M homes were
watching a scripted drama Sunday night but *not* watching CBS or ABC shows.
