Not only was Gordy the weatherman, when he left to do "Good Times", his character was written off of MTM as getting the network job that Ted always coveted. Essentially the Al Roker of his time.
In the closing credits of the later seasons, there was a clip of Mary setting up a remote shot with a cameraman. They didn't show a reporter. A film truck was also mentioned in a few episodes, and in one episode Lou had the big idea of having a video photographer ride along with the police. Maybe Lou Grant invented C.O.P.S.
