Anyone who talks for a living, especially if they make that living pushing the limits of some field, is going to make bad judgements on occasion and say something beyond the pale. You can't apologize for every borderline or grey comment without diluting your impact, but when you pull a whopper, the thing to do is simply acknowledge it and say your sorry.
