I think renovating 6B is a terrible move. No matter how great the
renovation is, the show will still look cheap compared to Leno's "Tonight,"
which has the best production values of any of the late night shows.

>From the moment this plan was revealed, I've thought that what NBC should
do instead is rent out the Hudson Theatre on West 44th, the home of Steve
Allen's "Tonight." (They can't buy it, because it's now part of the
Millennium Hotel.) This would reconnect the show to its history, give them
a big studio (Steve famously said on the premiere that “we especially
selected the Hudson Theatre because I think it sleeps about 800 people”),
and give the new "Tonight" a taste of the same street-level Manhattan vibe
that Letterman has used so effectively.
