They've been doing that every week since they started running "SNL" at 10. I assume the thinking is that there are those who don't want to stay up the extra 90 minutes and don't want to see the stiff sketches. I assume, however, that Update is cut out of the prime time repeat version.
And "Smash" isn't over--the last two episodes air a week from Sunday.
