The BBC series (there have been two now) were only 5 episodes long, and
were stripped across a single week. I notice that even this HBO version is
just 7 episodes. So I think that makes a difference compared with something
like Murder One or The Killing.

It means that there is a more "realistic" slant on the case. Somewhere
between wrapping any story up in a single episode, and dragging the story
out over 13 or 22 episodes with lots of "dramatic" twists and turns that
keep viewers on their toes, but don't necessarily make sense.

Also worth noting is the fact that series goes much further than the
courtroom where Murder One was largely set (or lawyers offices).
