Thinking back to Lawrence's interview with Marc Maron last year, he spoke about basically pitching several new shows to networks alongside new talent, with the goal of shepherding new people into the position of showrunner. I'd have to go back and listen to the entire interview again, but I believe for some of the shows he wanted be showrunner in name only -- others would be handling the donkey work, as it were.
