The media company best known for USA Today is buying the electronic media 
company spun off from the owner of the Dallas Morning News, adding 20 
stations in 16 cities (including flagship WFAA in Dallas, KING in Seattle. 
KGW in Portland, WCNC in Charlotte, KTVK in Phoenix, the pure indie known 
for a heavy news schedule and airing "Wheel" and "Jeopardy!" in prime time, 
and WWL in New Orleans) for a total of 43 stations, plus five regional 
cable news channels--the acquisition makes Gannett the nation's 
fourth-largest owner of Big 4 network affils in the U.S.:
