Not only that, but a lot of the actors who played bad guys had been
convicted of crimes. Rumor has it Farina genuinely didn't like a lot
of them because of this, which made his on-screen contempt for them
more genuine.

It was one of the first for me. I got a DVD player around the time
Tower Records was going out of business, and I started my DVD
collection by buying their stuff as the prices dropped. I bought a few
seasons of things here and there, mostly '80s fare like "Sledge
Hammer" and "RoboTech." I know "Crime Story" was among my Tower
purchases, too.

To me, that's what Mann's movie "Heat" is, only with Pacino in the
Farina role. Many lines and even entire scenes from that film were
borrowed from "Crime Story" (like the scene where Farina/Pacino learns
he's been cheated on, and he takes the TV because the guy can screw
his girl, but no way is he watching his TV).
