Steve Lawrence is actually a very witty guy - I have a video at home (which
I may post to YouTube one day) of Steve going on with Johnny Carson in 1991
and holding his own with Robin Williams and Johnny.

Steve and Eydie were on twice with Jay Leno, in 1994 and 1995. The first
appearance (9/21/94) was terrific - it was from a week of shows in Las
Vegas, and they were sandwiched between Roseanne Barr and Courteney Cox. At
the beginning of the show, a guy came out to do a stunt - he shoved a dozen
or so quarters up his nose. Later, after Steve and Eydie sang their song,
they sat down on the couch and Steve said "I spoke to that guy who put the
quarters up his nose... I gave him a handkerchief, and he blew a fortune!"

Courteney was promoting "Friends," which was to premiere the following
night. When Jay asked her to describe the show, she said it was about a
group of people in their twenties... "although I'm not in my twenties - I
just turned thirty." Eydie turned to her with something that was between a
sneer and a smile and said "And I was starting to LIKE you!"
