After all this talk about making changes on "Idol," Jennifer Lopez is back
on the panel after a year off--joining returnee Keith Urban and JLo is
jazzman Harry Connick, Jr., who has made guest mentor appearances before
(including last May, where he got in a heated, unscripted argument with
Randy Jackson on live TV) and Jackson is not leaving, he's just a mentor:

Among the names floating around replacing Dawg, Nicki Minaj and Mariah
Carey as judges were alums Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson and Adam Lambert
and hitmaker Dr. Luke--Hudson was supposedly a sure thing, but when
Clarkson turned down the offer she dropped out. The strange thing is that
when Fox let showrunners Ken Warwick and Nigel Lythgoe go, their response
to flagging ratings (although still better than the competition) was
initially that they were going to get rid of everyone but Seacrest. It now
looks like the only way they can really revamp the show is by making major
format changes--but do they really want to do that?
