Opera singer Martina Arroyo, jazz piano man Herbie Hancock, pop piano man Billy Joel, actress Shirley McLaine and guitar wizard Carlos Santana are this year's honorees--the event will be held Dec. 8 and air on CBS for the 36th year on Dec. 29, a remnant of the good old days of Nielsen "dark weeks" during the holidays when the networks would stuff every news doc and cultural program they could during those weeks (and I assume that Kennedy Center Honors were more high culture in their earlier years):
