I would think they are doing the same thing with Nate Silver and Olbermann, but 
the former is likely to be mostly online, and the celebrity of the latter can't 
be avoided.

As far as I know, he was only booted from the NBA studio show. PTI is a major 
property for ESPN, and they put up with two curmudgeons because it works so 
well. It is dangerously close though to the thing ESPN wants so much to avoid, 
which is making celebrities of their talent, and risking them being bigger than 
the brand. Though it seems to me like this is just what they are doing with 
Simmons.
