And, needless to say, all of the highlights Kevin cites -- as well as the Zevon show -- fall outside the ten-year mark. Mind you, I'm not saying that everything on either Late Night or the early years of the Late Show were gold, nor that there's been nothing of value over the last decade -- if that were the case, I'd have stopped watching a long time ago (though, admittedly, that hasn't stopped me from seeing how big a train wreck Lorne has arranged for SNL in any given week).
What I am saying is that Dave's show needs a massive overhaul to either show the creativity of the original (I'm sure the writers are nothing but frustrated over the pointless repetition of material) or to reflect Dave's current psychology. I'd rather see him do an hour with someone who genuinely interests him than watch him go through the motions with a bunch of people whom he only vaguely knows. Leno, on the other hand, seems to have no interests other than working and fixing cars, so there's not a lot to mine there. Conan at least has the outlet now of the Jibber-Jabber videos. Ferguson comes closest in doing a show with people he wants to have a conversation with, but I find the first 30 minutes of LLS too crowded with uninteresting gimmicks (I like Geoff, but not enough to watch).
