I think Angela is right - not so much that there is something sacred about Cabot Cove and a bunch of white New Englanders, but that there does not seem to be any good reason to give this new show the old show's title. I am willing to grant that someone might have a really interesting new take on an old idea - but, as Jules said in Pulp Fiction, it better be one charming mother fucking take. Battlestar Galactica had one; Wonder Woman, Bionic Woman, Knight Rider, Charlie's Angels, Ironside, did not. I guess Hawaii Five 0 has been pretty successful, but it still seems like the batting average for rebooting vintage network shows is pretty weak - and can't be much better, if at all, than a new start up. I am just interested in knowing what the thinking is behind these kinds of projects. Do they think the built-in name recognition will give them an edge? Maybe it does, at least for the first curiosity look-ins, but if anything it also sets up higher expectations that make it harder for the show to succeed. And any traction that does have will almost certainly be with the less desirable older viewers anyway. If someone wants to make a show about a an African-American woman who is a hospital administrator, amateur detective and first time mystery writer, why not just give it a new name and let it stand on its own? Or, perhaps following House or Elementary, give it some kind of evocative title or character elements. Even Five 0 changed the letter for a digit. -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
