I have read several news releases on this that make it sound like the ABC
News/Yahoo partnership means this is something of an in-house move, but I
don't think so. Katie's role in ABC news has been diminishing for quite
some time now, and I don't think anyone there really sees her as either a
ratings or credibility magnet. From what I have read, the ratings for her
talk show have been mediocre (clearly, she is not the next Oprah) and there
is nothing in the Disney body language that suggests it will be renewed.

It seems clear to me that Katie has now plowed through the three major
broadcast networks, is having a tiff with her main contact at the only real
cable option open to her (MSNBC and Fox News not options for obvious
reasons), and so is leaving both broadcast and cable for the only mode she
still has not burned her bridges with. I imagine in three years she will
sign a deal with Google or Apple, and then maybe Netflix or Amazon.com. In
ten years she will probably sign the first deal to be the Galactic Anchor
for the International Space Station Network.
