I was not a Doctor Who fan as a kid. I watched a few episodes, but even as a kid a low-production program was something I'd more likely mock than enjoy. However, having seen the total crap produced for television, I begged his parents to let him watch Doctor Who, and the did, starting with "Rose." I don't think it is as great as many seem to think it is, but it meets or exceeds my expectations of what a family show is supposed to be, and it was better than the vapid wasteland he was watching before.
