If the reports I've seen are accurate, the station made no advance public
announcement.  The staff at the station were only told about it last
Wednesday night, and only the on-air talent and the production staff that
work on the script/graphics/etc were in the know ahead of time.

I don't know - for that depends. If they hyped it all day then it does feel
like the bad SNL movie, but if they kept it quiet, and people just turned in
for their regular newscast and got Burgundy, then I think it is pretty
awesome. There are a lot of painfully awkward moments, but that is part of
it, isn't it?
