So... Jackson, Mississippi, and both Tallahassee and Jacksonville, Florida. I was born and raised in Huntsville, Alabama, spent a year each in Chattanooga and Atlanta, but have spent the bulk of my adult life in Dallas. Given the "everybody's from somewhere else" nature of Huntsville in the 1960s and 1970s (including my own parents) and all the travel I've done, I'm not surprised that they couldn't get closer than they did. Also, the grass strip between the sidewalk and the street is a "right of way" where I'm from and that wasn't one of the options.
