I would be interested in learning more as to why this so particularly infuriated your friend or adoption groups (not that it matters, but my own family of origin includes adopted siblings). I think the show has in general a refreshingly honest and straightforward attitude towards adoption and blended family issues. Just a quick note on the immediate context of the joke: the line was not aimed at making fun of the girl, but at making fun of one of her dads, who was self-indulgently trying to prove his green credentials to an eco-fascist neighbor.
