Because, even though a seemingly-sincere apology has been made, anyone who 
makes an offensive remark in any context must be shunned for the rest of 
their lives?

I'll admit Richards said something offensive and stupid, and the rest of 
his career will be colored by it, but I'm not prepared to ban him from 
polite society.
