Sky Sports in the UK carried Fox's pre-game show for three hours this year,
and it was the first time I'd ever seen it or any equivalent shows from
previous years. I just found the whole Obama interview toe-curling. While I
wouldn't expect any interview with a nation's leader full of soft pitches,
this was aggressive from the outset and just felt horribly out of place.
Set amidst lots of feel-good stories and celebrity fodder of the rest of
the show, it was just completely out of place. I actually changed channel
as I couldn't watch it. Perhaps it's the liberal in me.

I totally get that a network wants to maximise the marketing of its assets
with the unique opportunity that the Super Bowl offers, from giving a boost
to a new series in the post-game slot, to pumping the hype for a sister
corporation's movie. But there can't really be many Americans who didn't
know that Fox News isn't Obama's biggest fan. It just leaves a bitter taste
in half the nation's mouths I'd have thought.

I'm not really sure why there should be a serious news interview crammed
into the beginning of a sports event anyway. Even if that event transcends
sports to an extent and becomes a cultural touchstone.
