The NFL's pee-arr ( http://nflcommunications.com/2014/02/05/nfl-partners-with-cbs-on-2014-thursday-night-football-package/) seems to indicate that CBS will air the first 8 games (simulcast on NFLN), while NFLN will air the final 8 on its own.
Since the "Thursday Night" package starts at Week 2 (the Thursday season-opener is actually in the Sunday Night package, as I recall), that means that CBS would have football on Thursdays until roughly the end of October. After then, presumably, normal service would resume on Thursday nights. In a lot of ways, it's no different than the way the baseball playoffs used to blow a big hole in Fox's fall schedule.
