...the thing I find most striking, is the ADD aspect of the show. The segments
and bits are shorter and more frequent, rather than any one sustained bit. Even
the monologue is broken up into segments with bits thrown in. I'm sure it's my
age showing...but I'm equally sure they like to create things in short, easily
digestible, easily viral video bits.

I was struck by a few things on the first night. The sets are gorgeous and very
welcoming. Fallon seemed close to tears the entire evening. Like Kevin, I was
afraid people would go plummeting to their death off the top of 30 Rock, and
the camera work was similarly ADD for that segment. I recognized each of the
walk-ons, and found the segment to be a nice way to allow his friends to give
him some support that night while making a pretty hilarious joke. Colbert will
always steal such a segment--very funny, very generous. I remember a time when
the late night wars were so vicious that you would never see someone even
acknowledge the presence of another show in their time slot. Colbert also
mentioned Fallon on his own program Monday night, again a classy move.

I wasn't expecting to like Fallon at all, but I've got him on the DVR season
pass for now and we will see how it goes...
