>From The Official James Garner Fan Page on Facebook:

We are very saddened to report that Juanita Bartlett passed away last night
at her home. Juanita was one of the brilliant writer/producers on "The
Rockford Files." She was originally Jim's secretary on "Nichols" when she
broke into writing. She wrote or co-wrote 35 episodes of "Rockford." Ater
"The Rockford Files" Juanita wrote for "The Greatest American Hero,"
"Tenspeed and Brownshoe," "Scarecrow and Mrs. King" and in the mid 80's
began producing the Carroll O'Connor hit "In the Heat of the Night" on NBC.

[She also wrote "The New Maverick," the 1978 TV movie that reunited
brothers James Garner and Jack Kelly. And she was executive producer on the
second season of "Spenser For Hire."]

Juanita got her big break as a writer when she asked "Nichols"
writer/producer Frank Pierce if he needed a script for Bertha. Frank did
not recall a character named Bertha (who was actually the unseen namesake
of the local saloon). Frank said to Juanita to write one. Everyone loved it
and so she was moved from secretary to staf writer in a heartbeat. For a
few days she continued to make coffee until they told her that the new
secretary would do that.
