I imagine it's picking up a lot of style points among snarky entertainment critics (and snarky TV viewers) due to the fact that it's poking fun at the industry.  I agree, it's not anywhere close to the top of the list of all-time greats, but it's well-written and -acted, and it's fun watching the over-the-top antics from the writers' perspective, much the same as I enjoyed Entourage from the hedonistic actors' perspective.

I have not yet watched season 3, but I have been watching Episodes. I enjoy it well enough, but I guess I don't see why for some it is such a top echelon show.

Best live-action sitcom currently on in the US. Loved the finale and agree about the loony programming head's inspired and thoroughly au courant idea, but thought the ep with LeBlanc cheating on his blind lover with his co-star's teenage relative was a bit funnier - and a natural for Emmy submission. Still, what a great ride and a great way to wrap up the current run! And I do believe we have two more seasons of "Episodes" on the way.

I don't know if anyone here is still watching the Showtime series, but I am (despite the difficulty they're having in airing the episodes), and thought the Season Three finale was the best of the season.

The reason I mention it is that, at one point, the head of the network (played by Chris Diamantopoulos) is off his meds and pitching the future of the net to its board. He goes off on a rant that is supposed to reflect his mental state, but which I think is actually brilliant and might not be a bad course of action for the broadcast networks. In short, there's no schedule; there are no "nights," there's no nothing recurring to depend on. Everything is live and just put on the air at any time, forcing viewers to watch live (and to connect with friends: "Tune in right now! You won't believe what they're doing!")

Anything goes. He specifically mentions "What if the host of a cooking show is taken hostage by the villain of one of our cop shows? And then he's shot by a cop?" "An actor?" "No, a real cop!" "Really shooting him?" "Why not? There are plenty of actors who'll do it."

Given that the only things that seem to be able to defeat time-shifting are sports and other live events, something like this may be the only course of the broadcast entities are going to survive.

Just sayin'.
