I imagine it's picking up a lot of style points among snarky entertainment critics (and snarky TV viewers) due to the fact that it's poking fun at the industry. I agree, it's not anywhere close to the top of the list of all-time greats, but it's well-written and -acted, and it's fun watching the over-the-top antics from the writers' perspective, much the same as I enjoyed Entourage from the hedonistic actors' perspective.

The reason I mention it is that, at one point, the head of the network (played by Chris Diamantopoulos) is off his meds and pitching the future of the net to its board. Anything goes. He specifically mentions "What if the host of a cooking show is taken hostage by the villain of one of our cop shows? And then he's shot by a cop?" "An actor?" "No, a real cop!" "Really shooting him?" "Why not? There are plenty of actors who'll do it."
Given that the only things that seem to be able to defeat time-shifting are sports and other live events, something like this may be the only course of the broadcast entities are going to survive.
Just sayin'.
