Any show that opens with Paige Turco naked in a bed has my interest, but
she vanished when the opening credits began. Scott Bakula's on again/off
again Creole accent was off-putting (if they wanted someone who sounded
like they were born on the Bayou, there is no shortage of such people). I'd
hope that CCH Pounder is planned to be a series regular, because I find her
to be very watchable, and her voice is unique and expressive (if there is
to be a female Darth Vader in the new Star Wars movies, I'd like her to
voice the character). The premise, a small team of investigators who waits
in their "office" on Bourbon Street to solve Navy related crimes, is
somewhat flaky, but with a good enough cast, they could pull it off. But
what is missing is the something different to make CBS go ahead with
another NCIS series. NCIS LA has the undercover angle, though that premise
seems to come and go depending on the episode. Honestly, I was hoping the
New Orleans series could be a little bit darker in tone, make solving
crimes more of a think piece along the lines of what "Homicide: Life on the
Street" used to do. Like HLOTS did with Baltimore, New Orleans offers a
very real, very raw, very exposed city landscape for NCIS. I hope they do
more with it than just what happens in the French Quarter.
