Finally got a chance to watch Episode 1 tonight on HBOGO (dealing with some family stuff last night and forgot to set the DVR). I laughed a lot, but yes, it did feel a bit like "TDS Weekend". Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I think bringing a touch of the familiar works for Oliver, because it gives the audience what they expect to see, and got the show off to a hot start. I'd have personally preferred a set that didn't evoke TDS quite so much, and the format was a little too familiar, but now that he's established, Oliver can start tweaking the format over the coming weeks.
