As it happens, I was at Leno's comedy haunt in Hermosa Beach (The Comedy &
Magic Club) on Sunday night for a musical showcase in the lounge and was
leaving the venue about an hour before Jay went on. He was on his way in
and we exchanged friendly nods. Although never a fan of his work on The
Tonight Show, I always appreciated his stand-up work away from TV and
thoroughly enjoyed the three one-on-ones we've had in the past - one was an
interview and two were purely social, He always struck me as a good guy,
while Mavis, present on all three occasions, was a pleasure to be around --
kind, clever and a little snarky. It never surprised me that she had a
social conscience and did something to make the world a better place. Glad
he's lending his support as well.
