I'm not quite sure how they came up with the verb "humiliated". The fact they got knocked out early (second round for NYC, first round for Chicago) isn't quite synonymous with the chosen word. This is especially true with Chicago, whom everyone in the US thought was the clear favorite while everyone not in the US definitely didn't.
