The question posed, and answered in the negative, by this Vulture piece. http://www.vulture.com/2014/06/chelsea-handler-netflix-talk-show-bad-idea-or-no.html
It revolves around a notion that a late-night talk show must be topical and timely, or it will fail. The data point offered in support of the hypothesis is The Pete Holmes Show, which was *never* topical. While I don't dispute the importance of the (usually topical) monologue to the format, it's not what people remember of these shows after they have left the screen. (I also don't think Holmes is out due to non-topicality, but that's a different discussion.) I think it's a reasonable question to wonder how Netflix might handle a format that is usually five nights a week. While I binge on many of the late night shows, I doubt that's normal. Dropping a bushel of episodes at once may be Netflix's thing, but it doesn't have to be. David -- -- TV or Not TV .... The Smartest (TV) People!
