I doubt anyone with any sense of Rivers and the Fashion Police is surprised by this, it is a move that was screaming to be made, and perhaps the only surprise is that with Rivers as old as she was E did not think to bring Griffin on as a regular panelist prior to this. We have talked a bit about Griffin on the list recently, and perhaps enough time has passed since her death to point out that Rivers really does belong somewhere on the Kathy Griffin continuum of celebrity. Like Griffin, Rivers deserves credit for being a hard worker and a survivor, and for creating her own opportunities. Like Griffin (IMO) Rivers could be funny on occasion, and found liberation in eventually adopting a WTF-tude, but was never a top-line stand up comic. While both Rivers and Griffin over-achieved their actual comedic talent, Rivers arguable over-achieved more, though mostly I think because of the patronage of Johnny Carson. While JC could be a prickly son of a bitch, I have always tended to by sympathetic to his side of the feud with Rivers, because: a) in my view she clearly consistently distorted the facts of the events and b) she had no business being the regular co-host of the Tonight Show in the first place, and should have bent over backwards to get Carson's blessing. -- -- TV or Not TV ....
