Feh. Barely watchable. Aggressively unfunny. Even Martin Short couldn't
help.

OK, I'll give you a little bit more than that. I like Mulaney's standup,
especially his bit about L&O:SVU. I was curious to see how he'd do as the
frontman of his own sitcom. Answer: horribly. He has ZERO on-screen
presence. He's using the same delivery for his lines that he'd use in his
standup set, and it just doesn't work.

Writing was classic 'FOX mid-'90s sitcom' quality.

Nasim Pedrad should have stayed at 30Rock - although since Lorne Michaels
is an EP on Mulaney, maybe she'll be able to go back when the show tanks.

Which brings me back to Martin Short, as an amalgam of Regis Philbin
and...um...Martin Short? There were flashes of the Martin Short we all
love, but buried under layers of terrible writing and a retread Rob
Petrie/Alan Brady relationship. Only Mulaney is no DVD, and as much as I
love Short, he's no Carl Reiner.

I will be utterly shocked if "Mulaney" survives to Thanksgiving, although
it might get a little extra life if it can hold Family Guy's lead-in.
