Well, there is precedent for this - "The Godfather Saga" took the events from The Godfather and The Godfather Part II and reorganized them into chronological order. That being said, for cinema purists, TGS is basically heresy.
To that end, I get why Hurwitz is doing this, but I don't think it's really necessary. Fans of AD are capable of handling complex storytelling. (Although I wonder - how is he going to handle overlapping moments? Use a single camera angle? Split screen?)
