Goodness. I knew that the FAA had been frustratingly slow in allowing commercial use for drones in the US, but thought that Hollywood somehow had a pass on this.
If it becomes anything like the UK, then expect to see drone shots in just about every production in every genre. We're seeing them used in drama, documentaries and news. Basically just about any aerial shot you see now seems to come from a drone. I suspect that helicopters are a lot more expensive for productions in the UK than the US, so that's one easy win. But a lot of productions that might have used big cranes seem to now use a drone. Easier transport and almost certainly cheaper.
