Ellen was his first guest Tuesday night, and both the reaction to her and Jimmy
essentially calling her show a strong influence suggest one explanation for the
success of Jimmy's Double Dare for Adults (tm @midnight)

Not even Reiner could get me to watch Fallon's show. From the clips I see
linked it, it reminds me of nothing so much as a local kiddie show with big
name guest stars. I will never understand this guy's success.

How awesome was that?! 87 years old, and he hasn't lost a step. (Though I
couldn't help wondering if he knew who Neil Young was.) One error though -
when Jimmy said that Doc had been with The Tonight Show from 1962 to 1992, Doc
did not correct him. In fact, Doc started with the show when it was a local
show called "The Steve Allen Show" in 1953, remained with the show when it went
national in 1954, and played in the band throughout the Allen and Paar eras. He
was promoted to bandleader in 1967. As Mark Evanier pointed out last week, one
of Jimmy's guests tonight (Wednesday) will be Carl Reiner. He will become the
first - and I think only possible - person to have appeared as a guest with all
six permanent hosts of Tonight (Allen, Paar, Carson, Leno, O'Brien and Fallon).
Now THAT'S cool. -Tim
