"Strictly", as it is in the UK, continues to do very well. For the last
couple of years it has been beating X-Factor when they run against one
another on Saturday nights (Or partially against one another. I won't even
begin to try to explain Saturday TV scheduling which is a weekly moveable
feast. Anyway, the idea that Saturday is the biggest night of the week is
probably an anathema to most readers here).

It is a different beast in the UK - closer to its ballroom origins. There
are more props than there used to be, but it has stayed much truer with
judges criticising dances that stray from the strict rules of a particular
dance. Len is staying on the UK; I think it was those transatlantic flights
that were doing him in. And of course, we only get one run a year between
September and December, which helps keep it fresher. They've also not done
anything cheap like ditch the live band and singers. We have been through
changes of presenters, with octogenarian Bruce Forsyth finally hanging up
his dinner jacket (his first TV appearance was in 1957, although he still
shows up for the Christmas Day special), and we now have an all-female
presenting line-up. They also continue to have a live Saturday show with a
recorded Sunday results show which acts as a big lead-in to BBC1's Sunday
night schedule.
