The best reading I've listened to in the past year of a book which fits 
your preferences: "Where'd You Go Bernadette" by Maria Semple, read by 
Kathleen Wilhoite. 
I'd also recommend Anne Hathaway's delightful reading of "The Wonderful 
Wizard of Oz" by L. Frank Baum.

Other recommendations for great recent readings, though out of your 
categories: "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith, read by Kate Burton; 
and Robert Petkoff's readings of the Travis McGee novels by John D. 
MacDonald.
