The analogy I've read would be Keith Olbermann's 2010 suspension over donating to various Democrats, which lead to an "indefinite" suspension that lasted three days. Though in Olbermann's case, he was donating to a specific candidate, as opposed to a more general foundation prior to any sort of announcement.
