I just watched the (presumably) final series, the second series focused on
life in London during the Cold War. As far as I'm concerned, they can keep
making two or three episodes every year or so, as long as Kitchen, Weeks,
and the creative team behind the show want to do it. But I suspect the show
has run its course. If you haven't seen High Castle, Trespass, or Elise,
they are each unique, gripping stories of suspense and gentle humor. I've
admired Michael Kitchen since he played the king in "House of Cards," and
enjoyed his turn as Tanner in the Bond franchise. He can do more with a
single look than most actors can do with a page of dialogue. And
Honeysuckle Weeks (whose name is second only to Benedict Cumberbatch)
turned a simple babbling blonde stereotype into a fully formed character
that matured into much more than she was.

Other UK shows get all the buzz and recognition, but Foyle's War endured
for a decade telling compelling stories with gentle subtlety and even
gentler optimism. They deserve credit for that.
