Horowitz, it's worth noting, is the guy who helped create First Take, one of the worst things in sports today.
Deadspin had what I think is a solid take on this: this pretty much cements the idea Fox has zero interest in actual sports journalism (not that ESPN is a bastion of it, but to basically layoff all your local channel website writers then hire an abomination of a human being that is Cowherd sends a solid message). I don't think you can not link this to the larger financial issues with ESPN (though I'll buy it's not a big link), especially since Cowherd was one of the three talents mentioned in the WSJ article from last week. (Sidebar: I don't remember seeing the WSJ article in my blitz through messages from the group, but there was one huge point in it. If ESPN ever decided to launch a stand-alone Internet service (like HBO Now), a number of cable companies have clauses that would allow them to immediately dump ESPN from their "Not Legally 'Basic' But That Package Everyone Calls Basic" package and offer it as a premium channel.)
