I will always be a Dave-Man first and foremost, but of the four Big
Goodbyes we have had in late night recently, for me this was head and
shoulders the best. That is a little unfair, since uniquely Jon had so many
people in his stable to play against, but still - a really enjoyable show.

I don't think Kilborn's haggard look was the most surprising, but it was
very striking. NIce they had him on though.
I agree they did a good job with Cenac. My first choice would have been for
Jon to do a full 6 minute interview with him like last week and talk not so
much about their dust-up, but race and television or comedy. But failing
that, the way they did it was pretty much right on.
Springsteen was not surprising, but so, so great.
But perhaps my biggest take-away was just another reminder of how great
Colbert is. I'm sure he practiced that heartfelt thank you in advance, but
it really did look like he did it without a prompter, and he was so
articulate and warm. Only time will tell how successful he will be at CBS,
but he will clearly be the most intelligent and articulate host in the
history of late night television (yes, I am counting the over-rated Cavett).
