What could possibly be wrong with calling the Vice-President of the United
States “Sir”? We would prefer “Joe” or something?

I thought it was the best interview he did all week. Very moving and
respectful, and gave some insight on Biden’s personality that I hadn’t seen
before.

I have to disagree. I thought the Biden interview was maudlin. Colbert's use

I thought Colbert would be the best late night interviewer after the departure
of Letterman and Ferguson, but he hasn't stepped up yet. It's still his first
week.

I think you will find Colbert uses the "Sir" fairly often in his interviews. As
always, this kind of thing is subjective, but I am frankly stunned to see your
take on it. I was pretty confident that almost everyone would be positively
impressed by the interview, even transcending partisanship or late night
allegiances. I went back and watched it again to double check myself - but no,
to me it still played as an outstanding and genuine exchange. Maybe it's
because I have a son...
