You never know. Alex Kingston's River Song character - although polarizing to the fan base - was seemingly done on the show when Matt Smith regenerated into Peter Capaldi, but she will be back at Christmas, presumably as a one-off. And Barrowman has always proclaimed his desire to make a return visit to the TARDIS. Personally, I'd like to see a Capt. Jack/River Song spinoff wherein they use their time vortex manipulators to engineer heists throughout history. Now that's truly a TV hope that will not come to pass - although it sounds like a natural for the Whovian Big Finish audio book series.
