Given that I just piled on in another thread with some SNL-bashing, it is perhaps only fair to note here for the record that SNL departed from its cold open custom (how many times have they done that other than after 9-11?) and went with a simple but heartfelt comment from Cecily Strong"

We stand with you" (followed by some remarks in french which I assume was the same basic message. She then delivered the "live from New York" line. I thought it struck the right tone - though it had the unfortunate consequence of making it feel like there was even more show to have to suffer through.
