What I have been rooting for, with some guilt, is that if they are stuck
with Batiste, that they have Colbert basically have the kind of
relationship with him that Carson had with Doc - kind of tease and make fun
of him and let the audience identify with the host. He has done that a
little, but in a vague and half-hearted way.

The NO segment was a start - but I kept wondering why they did not air that
the first week or two. But I guess the real problem is that I just don't
like Batiste enough, and don't respond passionately enough to his music. I
miss the feeling I always had with Paul (and that I pretty much have the
few times I have watched Fallon) that the band can jam with whoever is
singing that night, and most nights would be better than anyone they bring
in.
