Clearly, Desilu/Paramount/CBS has to draw a line somewhere. They can't accept another network producing and airing an unauthorized series, or another studio making and releasing a movie.
Exactly where to draw that line, of course, is an open question, especially when they permitted so much over the decades. I can see them deciding that something that looks professional, and has a professional-sized budget, would be too easily confused with genuine Paramount product.
