It was business as usual here in California as well, aside from those
agencies/companies which normally had the entire week between Christmas and
New Years off. Sure, Christmas Eve is usually a half day (or earlier) but
not New Years.

As far as the scheduling, the old Chick-Fil-A Bowl at 7:30-8 pm ET had
decent viewership and was good background programming at bars and
restaurants. From Wikipedia, it got ratings in the 5-7 range despite not
being one of the BCS bowls, and the timing for Atlanta was ideal because
bowlgoers could simply ring in the New Year following the game (as opposed
to the Cotton Bowl which ended at 10:30 pm CT). I think the ceiling for a
New Years Eve game will likely be a 10. Maybe the old BCS system, of
staggering bowl games out on weekday nights, may work better.

For 2016/17, you have the odd situation of New Years Eve with championship
games and New Years Day bowl games on Monday since January 1 is a Sunday
and that's reserved for the NFL. I for one would have wanted to see a
college championship qualifier than the meaningless Sunday Night game.
